LHC Optics Measurements from Transverse Damper for the High Intensity Frontier
/ Nissinen, Tuuli (CERN) ; Carlier, Felix (CERN) ; Le Garrec, Mael (CERN) ; Maclean, Ewen (CERN) ; Persson, Tobias (CERN) ; Tomás García, Rogelio (CERN) ; Wegscheider, Andreas (CERN)
Current and future accelerator projects are pushing the brightness and intensity frontier, creating new challenges for turn-by-turn based optics measurements. Transverse oscillations are limited in amplitude due to particle losses. [...]

Probing Transverse Impedances in the High Frequency Range at the CERN SPS
/ de la Fuente, Elena (CERN ; Tech. U. Madrid (main)) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Mases Solé, Ingrid (CERN ; Goethe U., Frankfurt (main)) ; Rumolo, Giovanni (CERN) ; Zannini, Carlo (CERN)
The SPS transverse impedance model, which includes the major impedance contributions in the machine, can be benchmarked through measurements of the Head-Tail mode zero instability. Since the SPS works above transition energy, the head tail mode zero is unstable for negative values of chromaticity. [...]

High intensity beam dynamics assessment and challenges for HL-LHC
/ Rumolo, G (CERN) ; Salvant, B (CERN) ; Mounet, N (CERN) ; Tomás, R (CERN) ; Bartosik, H (CERN) ; Baudrenghien, P (CERN) ; Bruce, R (CERN) ; Buffat, X (CERN) ; Calaga, R (CERN) ; De Maria, R (CERN) et al.
The High Luminosity (HL-LHC) project aims to increase the integrated luminosity of CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC) by an order of magnitude compared to its initial design. This requires a large increase in bunch intensity and beam brightness compared to the first LHC runs, and hence poses serious collective-effects challenges, related in particular to electron cloud, instabilities from beam-coupling impedance, and beam-beam effects. [...]

Simulations and First RF Measurements of Coaxial HOM Coupler Prototypes for PERLE SRF Cavities

Paris-Saclay) ; Barriere, Simon (CERN) ; Clement, Sebastien (CERN) ; Duchesne, Patricia (IJCLab, Orsay) ; Gerard, Romain Louis (CERN) ; Gerigk, Frank (CERN) ; Henry, James (Jefferson Lab) ; Kaabi, Walid (IJCLab, Orsay) ; Maurin, Pierre (CERN) ; Olivier, Gilles (IJCLab, Orsay) et al.
Superconducting Radio-Frequency (SRF) linac cryomodules are foreseen for the high-current multi-turn energy recovery linac PERLE (Powerful Energy Recovery Linac for Experiments). Coaxial higher order mode (HOM) couplers are the primary design choice to absorb beam-induced power and avoid beam instabilities. [...]

Transverse Coherent Instability Studies for the High-Energy Part of the Muon Collider Complex

The International Muon Collider Collaboration (IMCC) is studying a 3 TeV center-of-mass muon collider ring, as well as a possible next stage at 10 TeV. Muons being 200 times heavier than electrons, limitations from synchrotron radiation are mostly suppressed, but the muon decay drives the accelerator chain design. [...]

Revised Collimation Configuration for the Updated FCC-hh Layout
/ Abramov, Andrey (CERN) ; Bruce, Roderik (CERN) ; Giovannozzi, Massimo (CERN) ; Pérez Segurana, Gustavo (CERN) ; Redaelli, Stefano (CERN) ; Risselada, Thys (CERN)
The collimation system for the hadron Future Circular Collider (FCC-hh) must handle proton beams with an unprecedented nominal beam energy and stored beam energy in excess of 8 GJ, and protect the superconducting magnets and other sensitive equipment while ensuring a high operational efficiency. The recent development of the 16-dipole lattice baseline for the FCC-hh, and the associated layout changes, has necessitated an adaptation of the collimation system. [...]

A Linearized Vlasov Method for the Study of Transverse e-Cloud Instabilities
/ Johannesson, Sofia (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Iadarola, Giovanni (CERN) ; Seidel, Mike (PSI, Villigen ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne)
Using a Vlasov approach, electron cloud driven instabilities can be modeled to study beam stability on time scales that conventional Particle In Cell simulation methods cannot access. The Vlasov approach uses a linear description of electron cloud forces that accounts for both the betatron tune modulation along the bunch and the dipolar kicks from the electron cloud. [...]

A new radiation hard profile monitor is being researched and developed for the North Area Beamlines at CERN. The monitor must have a spatial resolution of 1 mm or less, an active area of 20 x 20 cm, a low material budget (~0.3%) and be operational in a beam that has a maximum rate of ~2x10¹¹ p/s in the full energy range of 0.5 ¿ 450 GeV/c.
