DeepMET: Improving missing transverse momentum estimation with a deep neural network /CMS Collaboration
At hadron colliders, the net transverse momentum of particles that do not interact with the detector (missing transverse momentum) is a crucial observable in many analyses. In the standard model, missing transverse momentum originates from neutrinos. [...]

Identification of tau leptons using a convolutional neural network with domain adaptation in the CMS experiment /CMS Collaboration
The DeepTau identification algorithm, based on deep neural network techniques, has been developed to reduce the fraction of jets, muons, and electrons misidentified as hadronically decaying tau leptons ($\tau_\mathrm{h}$) in the CMS experiment. The latest version of this algorithm includes domain adaptation by backpropagation, a technique that reduces data-to-simulation discrepancies in the region with the highest purity of genuine $\tau_\mathrm{h}$ candidates. [...]

Probing thermodynamic properties of proton-lead collision systems via multiplicity dependence of average transverse momentum at the LHC /CMS Collaboration
The possible formation of hot, strongly interacting matter in small collision systems has generated significant interest. In this study, the correlation between the average transverse momentum ($\langle {p_{\mathrm{T}}} \rangle$) and charged-particle multiplicity ($N_{\mathrm{ch}}$) is analyzed in proton-lead (pPb) collisions at the CERN LHC to explore the system's thermodynamic properties. [...]

Unveiling the dynamics of long-range correlations in high-multiplicity jets through substructure engineering in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=13 TeV /CMS Collaboration
Recent CMS data have revealed long-range correlations at high charged-particle multiplicity ($N_\text{ch}^\mathrm{j}$) within jets produced in proton-proton (pp) collisions, suggesting collective behavior in systems much smaller than those typical of heavy ion collisions. In the polar coordinate system about the reconstructed jet axis, two-particle azimuthal correlations show an unexpected rise in elliptic anisotropy ($v^{*}_2$) at large pseudorapidity separations ($\Delta\eta^{*} > 2$) as a function of $N_\text{ch}^\mathrm{j}$, a trend not reproduced by event generators like \textsc{pythia} or \textsc{sherpa}. In this paper, we present detailed measurements of long-range correlations using LHC Run 2 data at $\sqrt{s} = 13~\mathrm{TeV}$ and compare the results with model predictions. [...]

The production of prompt P-wave charmonium states $\chi_\mathrm{c1}$(1P) and $\chi_\mathrm{c2}$(2P) is studied in proton-lead (pPb) collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of $\sqrt{\smash[b]{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}}=8.16\,\text{Te\hspace{-.08em}V}$. The analysis is based on data with an integrated luminosity of $175\,$nb$^{-1}$ that were collected by CMS at the LHC. [...]
